About the 2005 Lexus SC430

The Lexus SC 430 is a luxury, two-seat sports car that is equipped with a variety of standard features and distinguished by a one-touch, retractable, folding hard top. The SC was developed to appeal to a segment of the market who wanted sports car appeal without sacrificing ride quality, noise reduction and touring performance that distinguishes the Lexus brand. Bucket seats were added in the back to avoid the two-seat insurance premium, but they are not functional for passengers. The Lexus 430 SC was discontinued after the 2010 model year and was replaced by the IS 250 and 350 convertible models.

With an all-aluminum, 3.4-liter, V8 engine, the SC delivers an exhilarating 288 horsepower and 317 pound-foot of torque. Performance is enhanced through continuously variable valve timing, which boosts output across the entire rpm range. The transmission is the trademark Lexus six-speed automatic with a manual sequential shifting option. Although the SC requires premium unleaded gas, fuel economy is 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, which is more than acceptable for a high performance sports car. A combined team from Europe and Japan designed the SC 430 and it was manufactured in Kanto Jidosha, Japan.

Only two years after the launch of the Lexus brand, the SC 400 coupe was introduced in 1991. It was equipped with a 4.0-liter, V8, 1UZ-FE engine that was estimated to have accumulated over $400 million in research and development costs. The SC 300 was added in 1992 and offered a 3.0-liter, I-6 engine. These two models continued to be produced until 2000, when Lexus responded to consumer demand for a luxury convertible. The second generation SC 430 was introduced in 2001 and included the groundbreaking folding hardtop. In the luxury sports car class, the SC 430 was a competitor to the Porsche Boxster, BMW Z4 and Jagura XK.

The 2010 SC 430 was only available in one trim package since it came equipped with so many standard features. This included 10-way power and heated leather seats, genuine wood trim, voice-activated navigation system, bluetooth wireless cell phone connectivity, knee air bags and the Mark Levinson premium sound system. Exterior accents are highlighted by adaptive HID headlights, 18-inch, six-spoke alloy wheels and windshield glass that deflects heat and UV rays.

In 2004 the Lexus SC 430 was recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for having the highest Initial Quality in the premium luxury vehicle class. The SC 430 also received an award for Best to Hold Value in 2002 from Kelly Blue Book.
